Michael Praetorius (1671-1621, příjmení je podle tehdejšího zvyku zejména vzdělanců latinskou obdobou původní německé podoby Schultheiß čili česky Rychtář) pocházel z Durynska a díky službě u Heinricha Julia von Brunschweig-Wolfenbüttel pobýval nějaký čas i v rudolfinské Praze. Pro většinu českých posluchačů je jeho jméno spojeno pouze s vánoční písní Es ist ein Ros‘ entsprungen, podobně jak například u Vivaldiho se většině vybaví pouze Čtvero ročních dob (v praxi ovšem jen začátek první části). Nabízená alba dávají příležitost aspoň přiblížit část jeho rozsáhlé tvorby, a to nejen v oblasti děl pro varhany, ale také z duchovních písní či kusů tanečních.
